RCD Espanyol Special and Lluïsos de Gràcia win MICIntegra in Vidreres
RCD Espanyol Special football team, and Lluïsos de Gràcia B basketball team, have conquest of the seventh edition of MICIntegra tournament this Friday evening in Vidreres, a championship for players with intellectual disabilities. The contest, which included in the 19th Edition of the MIC-Mediterranean International Cup, has been celebrated during the whole day and has had a participation of 21 football teams – two more than last year – and 4 basketball teams.
On one hand, RCD Espanyol Special has gained Motivational Group’s title. This group was formed out of the first qualified teams of the initial stage. The team surpassed Units Terres de l’Ebre team, who won the last year’s edition, in the final match (2-1), obtaining this way, its particular triplet of titles having won it already in 2016 and 2017.
On the other hand, Inclusion Group was formed by the second qualified teams in the first round. In this group, UE Sant Andreu achieved the final victory against Badalonès (2-1). Group Companionship, shaped by the third teams in the classification charts, Fundació Ampans won MAP Abadessenc (0-4).
Lluïsos de Gràcia B defeats Fundació Ramon Noguera
When talking about basketball, Lluïsos de Gràcia B, from Barcelona, has won the tournament after winning the final match against Fundació Ramon Noguera, from Girona (21-29). An excellent defending task combined with fluid transitions when attacking, have guaranteed the victory of Lluïsos de Gràcia B against the combative Ramon Noguera. On the other hand, the fight for third and fourth places were played by Lluïsos de Gràcia A and CB Adepaf, from Figueres. This match has been won by Lluïsos de Gràcia A in a duel which also had an extra-time. Barcelona’s team has replaced the last year’s winner, l’Asociación Catalana de Integración y Desarollo Humano (acidH)
The tribute event in memory of Jordi Rovira and the presence of Quim Torra
The competition, which has the support of Obra Social “la Caixa” and Fundació Damm, keeps betting on the priority of the construction on a competition sports space dedicated to players with intellectual disabilities. This year’s edition has started with an emotive tribute to Jordi Rovira’s memory made by CaixaBank volunteers. He was one of the main driving forces of MICIntegra seven years ago and who passed away this last November. His brother and MICFootball director, Juanjo Rovira, has collected the present.
The Catalan president, Quim Torra, has been present in the event during the final rounds of the football tournament and the award giving ceremony. Torra has thanked the organization, which he has qualified as “extraordinary” and has delighted everyone with his compliments for the MICIntegra, sentencing “you can only integrate integrating”.
To Juanjo Rovira, MICFootball director, the valoration “has been very positive and it gives people positive energy and fresh air seeing the players’ faces full of joy. Having the medal hanging off their necks, they leave as Champion League players”.
Jordi Camps, Vidreres Mayor, has declared that his village is always opened to host tournaments such as MICIntegra who “represent a sports party and gives popularity to the territory and brings a lot of outsiders. From the Vidreres city council we are betting on the participation of the whole town in those activities.
