The Spanish National Team head-coach Luis Enrique announced last Friday the list of 26 players for the upcomng 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which will begin on November 20th. From the aforementioned list of 26 players, a total of 16 have played our tournament at some point. In other words, 62% of the players called up with the Spanish National Team took part in the MICFootball when they were younger.

A sensational stat for MICFootball, a tournament with more than 20 years of history that will celebrate the next edition from April 4 to 9, 2023. Football players like them started once at Costa Brava, in the tournament where the future stars are born.

RCD Espanyol will take part in the upcoming MICFootball 2023, which will take place from April 4 to 9. The blue and white team have not missed any single tournament. They are the second club with more titles in the list of winners (15).

In the current Espanyol there are a total of 7 MICPlayers:

  • Pol Lozano (2013, 2015 & 2016)
  • Joan Garcia (2017)
  • Sergi Gomez (2008)
  • Javier Puado (2010 & 2012)
  • Fernando Calero (2014)
  • Nico Melamed (2015 & 2017)
  • Sergio Darder (2014)

Atletico de Madrid will be part of the upcoming MICFootball 2023. The Spanish powerhouse have confirmed their participation in the tournament, which will celebrate its 21st edition from April 4 to 9 at the Costa Brava.

Atletico have won the tournament 4 times (2003, 2010, 2011 and 2018 – the latter in the women’s category -), so they will be looking for their fifth title in the next edition.

In the current Atletico there are a total of 3 players who have played the MICFootball:

  • Joao Felix. The Portuguese played the 2013 edition with FC Porto.
  • Sergio Reguilon. The left back was in the tournament back at 2010 with Real Madrid.
  • Saúl Ñíguez. The midfielder lived the MIC experience in 2008 with Real Madrid.

Teams from LaLiga

More good news are coming for the next edition of MICFootball, which will take place from April 4 to 9 2023 in more than 30 municipalities from the Costa Brava. Real Madrid have confirmed their participation in the tournament! The Merengues will return one more year to an event they have only missed once.

Real Madrid is one of the clubs with more success in the tournament, having won a total of 10 titles:

Dani Carvajal, from MICFootball to succeed at Madrid

The right back played the 2006 edition with Real Madrid. Carvajal went through stages until he reached the first team, where he has spent 10 seasons and has won a total of 5 Champions Leagues. We are proud of seeing how he has grown professionally to become one of the best in the world at his position.

Carvajal is one of the many MICPlayers who have played the tournament with Real Madrid’ shirt. Other illustrious names are Saúl Ñíguez, Sergio Reguilón, Raúl de Tomás, Miguel Gutiérrez, Pablo Sarabia, Hakimi Achraf or Borja Mayoral.

Juventus FC will play the MICFootball for their first time in the 2023 edition, which will be held from April 4 to 9 on the Costa Brava.

The Vecchia Signora will thus make their debut in the international youth football tournament, with more than 20 years of history and which has seen born great players like Leo Messi, Neymar, Casemiro, Rashford or Pedri.

The Brazilian Alex Sandro, currently playing for the Italian team, was in two editions of the MIC. He came in 2009 and 2010 with the Brazilian National Team. We are so proud of his career!

An incredible roster

Great news! AC Milan will play the MICFootball for the first time in their history. The Italian team will make their debut in the next edition, which will be held at the Costa Brava from April 4th to 9th, 2023.

For the organization it is a luxury to welcome a centennial club, one of the most renowned in European football with 7 Champions League.

AC Milan will make their debut at MIC, joining the list of historical TOP teams.

Theo Hernández and Brahim, MICPlayers in Milan

In the current AC Milan squad there are two players who took part in the tournament:

  • Theo Hernández: The left back played the tournament in 2015 with Atlético de Madrid.
  • Brahim: the youngster attacker was the MVP of MICFootball 2011 with Málaga CF.

We are lucky! Borussia Dortmund will play MICFootball for the first time ever. The German team will make their debut in the next edition, which will be held from April 4 to 9, 2023, at the Costa Brava.

It is a luxury for the organization to welcome a centennial club, one of the most renowned in the Bundesliga in this century, establishing itself in the elite and winning two consecutive leagues in 2011 and 2012. The Westphalian club is also one one of those with the best youth teams in German football.

Borussia will make their debut in the next edition, joining the historical TOP teams list.

Donyell Malen & Mateu Morey, MICPlayers at Dortmund

There are currently two MICPlayers at Borussia Dortmund:

  • Donyell Malen: he took part in the 2011 edition with Ajax FC.
  • Mateu Morey: the Spanish defender played with FC Barcelona in 2017.

New teams confirmed! Barça, Juventus, Atletico and Borussia among others join the MICFootball 2023

 

FC Barcelona have confirmed their participation in MICFootball 2023, which will be held from April 4 to 9 at the Costa Brava.

The Blaugranas, which have not missed any edition since the tournament began in 2001, will seek for more titles.

With the three trophies in this 2022, Barça leads the MICFootball historical ranking with 19 titles, four more than the Brazilian National Team and RCD Espanyol.

An endless source of young players

Barça is and will be the cradle of young promises of worldwide football. Throughout these years we have seen several examples at MICFootball. Starting in 2003, with an unforgettable generation with Leo Messi, Cesc Fàbregas and Gerard Piqué. Or in 2005 with Jordi Alba.

Ansu Fati and Eric García have played three editions of MICFootball (2013, 2015 and 2017), while Gavi left his mark in 2016, 2018 and 2019. The Spanish midfielder received recently the Kopa Award as the best young player in the world in 2022.

From the current Barça’s roster, Busquets also took part in the MIC, but wearing the colors of JABAC Terrassa in 2005; while the magician Pedri was in 2017 with the Canarian Juventud La Laguna. Héctor Bellerín, Sergi Roberto and Alejandro Balde have also played in the tournament.

Alexia Putellas received her second consecutive Ballon d’Or on Monday, a distinction that accredits her as the best player in the world for the second consecutive year. Never before has a female player won two Ballon d’Ors.

“I am very happy to be here again, very happy. When I managed to win the first one a year ago, I decided to try to improve that year to put it at the service of the team and to see it rewarded in this way makes me proud. Without a doubt, without my teammates this would not It would be possible, I wouldn’t be here. I appreciate you very much and it’s a privilege to be your partner,” said Alexia upon receiving the award.

Putellas, who was the MICFootball 2018 ambassador, played a total of 43 games in the 2021/22 season (before getting injured), scoring 34 goals and dishing out 21 assists.

Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, better known as Gavi, has won the Kopa Trophy this Monday in Paris as the best young U21 player in the world in 2022. The 18-year-old Barça midfielder takes over from Pedri, who was in 2021 (he doubled with the Golden Boy award).

Gavi has outvoted other young promises (many of them already realities) such as Adeyemi, Bellingham, Gravenberch, Nuno Mendes, Musiala, Camavinga, Gvardiol, Wirtz and Saka.

The Sevillian footballer, a regular in Xavi Hernández’s line-ups and in Luis Enrique’s lists with the Spanish National Team, played three editions of MICFootball (2016, 2018 & 2019) with the FC Barcelona shirt.
