From MICFootball to the theatre of dreams

Manchester United and Barça will play this Thursday in the Europa League. Old Trafford will decide which team advanced to the quarterfinals after the thrilling 2-2 draw between two giants of European football.

Among the narratives surrounding the tie, with Paul Scholes’ amazing goal in 2008 on the retina, there is one that is less well-known and that takes us very close. And the fact is that between the two teams there are a total of 19 players who have played in MICFootball, the international youth football tournament that is held every Easter in the Costa Brava. This April, the 21st edition will take place from April 4 to 9 with almost 350 teams from more than 30 countries around the world.

In other words, almost half of all the players called up have been in the MICFootball fields.

Taking into account the two teams, Barça have a total of 11 players: Arnau Tenas, Eric Garcia, Jordi Alba, Alejandro Balde, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Pedri, Gavi, Ansu Fati and the players of the ‘B’ team Marc Casadó and Ángel Alarcón. At United, 8 more: Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Elanga, Casemiro and youth players Phil Jones, Zidane Iqbal and Kobbie Mainoo.
